Change the snowfall style in your theme
Seasonly lets you quickly switch between preset snowfall styles or build your own custom animation from the Shopify theme editor. You can do this from the App embeds section after the Seasonly embed has been turned on.
NOTE
If you have not enabled the embed yet, follow Enable Seasonly in your theme first.
Use a preset snowfall option
If you want to change the intensity of the snowfall without adjusting each setting manually, use the preset selector.
1 - Open the Shopify theme editor
In Shopify admin, open Seasonly, then go to the Getting started with Seasonly section and click Enable in Theme.
2 - Open App embeds
In the left-hand panel of the theme editor, click App embeds.
3 - Select the Seasonly embed
Find Seasonly in the list of app embeds and make sure it is turned On.
4 - Choose a preset from Options
Open the Options drop-down and select the snowfall style you want to use. This is the fastest way to increase or reduce the effect without changing individual settings.
5 - Save the change
Click Save in the top-right corner of the theme editor.
TIP
If you want a lighter effect, start with a preset from Options and preview it on your storefront before switching to Custom.
Create a custom snowfall animation
If the preset options do not match the look you want, choose Custom from the Options drop-down. This unlocks the full set of appearance controls.
1- Choose Custom
In App embeds, open the Options drop-down for Seasonly and select Custom.
2 - Adjust the snowfall settings
After selecting Custom, you can configure the following settings:
Coverage — controls how much of the screen is filled with falling flakes.
Size — changes the size of each flake.
Speed — controls how quickly the flakes fall.
Type — changes the flake style, including image-based flakes.
Colour — sets the flake colour.
Round — determines whether flakes appear circular or more jagged, like natural snow.
Shadow — adds a shadow effect to help flakes stand out more clearly.
3 - Preview the effect
Use the live preview in the theme editor to check how the snowfall looks over your storefront design.
4 - Save your custom animation
When you are happy with the result, click Save.
What each custom setting changes
Increase Coverage for a fuller snowfall effect.
Increase Size if you want flakes to be more visible on banners and hero images.
Lower Speed for a softer, calmer effect.
Use Round if you want clean circular flakes, or turn it off for a more jagged, natural snow look.
Turn on Shadow if your store uses light backgrounds and the flakes need more contrast.
Use a custom image instead of snowflakes
You can replace the standard flakes with your own artwork. This is useful if you want themed shapes such as stars, hearts, leaves, or branded icons.
1- Set Type to Image
In the Seasonly embed settings, change Type to Image.
2 - Choose or create your image
After selecting Image, you can:
Select an existing image from your Shopify Files section.
Upload a new image.
Generate a new image with AI.
3 - Preview how the image falls
Check the live theme preview to make sure the image looks clear at your chosen Size, Coverage, and Speed.
4 - Save your changes
Click Save once the animation looks right.
INFO
When Type is set to Image, your selected image becomes the falling element in place of the normal flakes.
Best practices for custom animations
Use smaller images for a cleaner falling effect and faster loading.
Choose colours that contrast with your storefront background so the animation stays visible.
Keep Coverage and Speed balanced so the effect feels festive without distracting from shopping.
Test on both desktop and mobile views in the Shopify theme editor before saving.
WARNING
Very large images or very high coverage settings can make the effect look crowded. Preview the animation before saving it to your live theme.
